UPC implores parties to embrace political dialogue

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has implored other political parties to embrace the long awaited summit of Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD).

The summit is slated to take place on December 12, 2018 under the chairmanship of UPC.

The party notes that dialogue is very key in promoting harmony and reconciliation in the country.

Addressing journalists at the party’s weekly press briefing at the party headquarters in Kampala yesterday, the party spokesperson, Michael Orachi Osinde said UPC is in support of both political and national dialogues as platforms to promote peace, unity and reconciliation among Ugandans.

“We believe that if at all we give the IPOD summit and national dialogues a chance, it would guarantee unity, reconciliation that should pave way for subsequent, peaceful transitional politics so as to have unity, peace, development and a prosperous Uganda,” he noted.

Osinde said all Ugandans need to embrace the issue dialogue; stressing that political dialogue is one of the main key components towards reconciliation.

“As IPOD; national dialogue is one of our main issues on the agenda. We are already discussing some issues as stakeholders. We really need to talk and these dialogues should be our platform to raise various issues and come up with lasting solutions,” he noted.

He implored all parties to avoid imposing frustrating conditions a head of the dialogue but to allow the process move on smoothly in the interest of all Ugandans.

Osinde added; “We want to sit and talk and not to pour blood again. So let us use the opportunity to talk”.

Miria Obote improving

At the same briefing, Osinde without revealing details said, Miria Obote, the wife to the former President Dr. Milton Obote is steadily responding to medication.

Miria Obote was admitted to hospital in a critical condition following an attack last Sunday on November 4th, 2018.

“Reports reaching us indicate that Mama Miria Obote is responding well to medication and there is great improvement compare to when she was admitted,” he noted.

Miria Obote is also former UPC party president and mother to the sitting party president MP Lira Municipality Jimmy Akena.

When contacted about the condition of his mother, Akena said; “I will at an appropriate time, put up a statement, I cannot say today or tomorrow”.
