“We are working hard and getting in shape to display the best on Thursday"

Nkumba University Volleyball Club (NUVC) team captain Doreen Akiteng believes her side is well equipped for the Aziz Damani National Volleyball League playoffs where they meet Uganda Christian University on Thursday in their first semi-final at Lugogo.

Akiteng says the team is ready to defend their league title after topping the table in the regular season with 68 points having lost just one game.

NUVC now boasts a partnership from Italian Serie A club CDA Volley Talsmasson and Italian based NGO Helping Kisenyi School and the University has also earmarked land for construction of a new home for the club which they hoped to start next year.

Nkumba won the league in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2017 and Ladies National Club Championships in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2018.

Akiteng who has played for the club since 2016 and has captained the Entebbe side since last year, said team coach Tonny Lakony has given them all the basics and they hope to win their second league title in a row.

"We are working hard and getting in shape to display the best on Thursday. All we need is what we have and the coach has given us the basics since the beginning of the league. We shall leave everything on court to make sure we defend our title," Akiteng vowed.

UCU Lady Doves were very impressive in the second round of the league. They finished fourth, surpassing Vision Volleyball Club and KCCA who dominated the first round.
