PLE in Rukungiri hit by delays

Nov 05, 2018

The last distributor was dispatched at 8:32am with examinations supposed to begin at exactly 9:00am

The distribution of the Primary Leaving Examinations in Rukungiri were delayed after the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) scout responsible for opening the boxes containing the exams failed to show up.

The distribution of the exams that was supposed to begin at 7:15am instead started almost an hour later at 8:05am.

The district monitor, Elly Musana contacted the UNEB executive director, Dan Ondongo, who directed them to cut the boxes containing morning examination for both district and municipal schools.

The boxes were cut at 8:10am and the last distributor for the district left Rukungiri Police at 8:32am. The examinations are supposed to begin at exactly 9:00am.

Before departing, Wilber Kiiru, the distributor for the farthest school, Katerampungu in Bugangari, said it would take him more than 90 minutes to reach the final school.

"I have seven schools in Bugangari sub-county and the last school is about 45km from here, I am likely to use more than one and half hours to reach at the last station," he said.

Each distributor was given an armed Policeman to escort the exams up to the centre.

Rukungiri Main has registered 6262 candidates for this year's examinations while Rukungiri Municipal has 1037 candidates compared to 935 that sat last year.

The district principal inspector of schools, Jackson Turyahumura, said it is the first time ever for exams to be delayed in the district.
