Indian businessman remanded over assault

LIRA - An Indian businessman who was on Tuesday evening remanded to Lira Central Prison over assaulting his female casual worker has been released on bail.

Singh Jeet Vikram, 25, the director of Rolex African Ltd oil mill located at Te Garage Village in Ojwina Division was on Friday granted cash bail of sh1m and his surety bonded at sh2m not cash.

Singh is alleged to have assaulted Loy Marion Arao, 22, on October 24 causing her bodily harm.  

Prosecution led by Sam Ongora had tried to block the bail arguing that the surety was not substantive and that prosecution is yet to provide a report on the condition of the victim since she is still admitted but the magistrate, Igga Adiru granted the suspect bail.

The Indian gained his partial freedom at around 3pm after paying the decreed sum of money. The case was adjourned to November 22 for mention and fixing of hearing date.
