Former MP survives going to prison

Omara who took to court after being defeated by Charles Angiro Gutomoi in the 2016 election lost the court case.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) Erute North, Geoffrey Omara Adigi narrowly survived going to prison after he was arrested in Kampala for failure to pay the cost of an election petition.

The High Court sitting in Lira ordered Omara to pay sh73.7m, to which he failed to respond, there by inviting trouble on himself. A warrant of arrest was issued against him by the deputy registrar in Lira.
 
Omara who was seriously sweating was seen pleading with Angiro's lawyer Makmot Kibwanga. The lawyer tasked him to pay at least sh20m in addition to bailiff fees. 
 
Together with some of his relatives, Omara was able to pay some of the money and was set free after agreeing to pay the balance.
