It was not a bed of roses for both competitors especially the women’s top seed

Ladies: Rita Nimusiima 8 Rashida Mutesi 4

Cream rose to the top as Rita Nimusiima and Mansoor Bwanika fought till the wee hours of Sunday morning to claim Nile Special National Pool Open Championships titles.

Following their gutsy performances both players are now the proud owners of cars. As the ladies champion Nimusiima drove away in a Toyota Raum while Bwanika staked his claim on an Altezza.

It was not a bed of roses for both competitors especially the women's top seed Nimusiima.

She faced the current Betway Ladies Pool League top scorer Sheila Ankah (quarter-finals), Jacinta Kajubi (semi-finals) and youngster Rashida Mutesi who she defeated 8-4 to win the final.

"I am very proud to become the first female winner of the Pool Open. I trained very hard to achieve this. Rashida is a very good player very talented but in the final my experience came through," Nimusiima said.

She especially took advantage of her opponent's inability to win straight games to claw her way back into the affair, impressing just about everyone in the arena.

In the men's category Bwanika became the talk of the town as he surged through the final to beat Simon ‘Computer' Lubulwa 9-4.

For a first time finalist the 20 year-old played without fear as he ushered in a new era of national open winners.

"I feel really happy and privileged to have won this title and the car. I know that after this win, my life will definitely change," he said.

He received sh2m and while Nimusiima received sh1m.

Second seed Namuyanja Victoria finished third in the ladies competition while Humphrey Nsubuga registered his best finish at the open to finish third in the men's category.

With the tournament finished, attention will now change to the Senior Pool League after the thrills and spills of the national open.
