Rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa has said that there is no reason for alarm about the Rugby Cranes 7s team performance in the Rugby Africa 7s in Tunisia over the weekend.

The team finished third after falling 24-19 to winners Zimbabwe in the semi-final, but went on to beat Madagascar 24-19 in the third play-off.

"To me, the team played very well and we have to credit them, putting in mind the preparation period the team had to the event," Kasasa said.

"We failed to defend that title because of three areas, the injuries of Pius Ogena and Solomon Okias, the red card of Aaron Ofwoyrwoth and individual brilliance which went off the team work track," the former Rugby Cranes 7s  and 15s team tactician explained.

He, however, urged for total support from government and the general public to help the team prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers.

Kasasa said that Uganda can qualify for the Olympics just as it did to the world cup, but that comes at a cost.

"We must spend much to have the team play international friendlies, pay players good allowances to motivate them if we are to achieve our target," the UOC talent identification manager added.

Kasasa added the team should training and preparing for the Dubai7s, HongKong 7s and Olympics qualifiers.
