Police summon Wakiso chairperson over sectarian remarks

Bwanika is expected to report at CID Headquarters today at 11:00 am



The CID has summoned Wakiso District Chairperson, Matia Lwanga to record a statement over allegation of promoting sectarianism.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) wants Bwanika to appear and explain the alleged remarks of promoting sectarianism he made against sand miners in Wakiso district.

According to the summon, Bwanika is expected to report at CID Headquarters on October16, 2018  at 11:00am.

Police further wants Bwanika to record a statement regarding incitement to violence.

Section 83 of the Penal Code stipulates that any person found guilty of incitement to violence is liable to imprisonment not exceeding 14 years.

Under the Penal Code, section 41(1) any group or body of persons on account of religion, tribe or ethnic or regional origin commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

Benard Kiirya Sisye, an officer from CID said in a statement, that Bwanika's statement will assist the police in providing valuable information in respect to the matter of being investigated.

"You will report to the investigating officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Bill Ndyamuhaki who will guide you on what is required," the summon states
