Daniel Mihigo is determined to end the year on another winning note after he won the Nakuru Badminton Open singles and mixed doubles last week.

The 22-year-old who is no stranger to foreign competitions is now looking ahead to similar displays in the Zambia and Botswana internationals before the end of the year to cement his position in the seniors' category.

Mihigo beat John Wanyoike 2-0 (21-13, 21-13) to win the men's singles before he combined with Mable Namakoye to win the mixed doubles against another Ugandan team of Herbert Ebayo and Betty Apio with a similar 2-0 score.

En-route to clinching the singles crown, Mihigo beat Calvin Linani 2-0 (21-17, 22-20), Victor Odera 2-1 (18-21, 22-20, 21-14) and Nixon Kiprotich 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) in the semis before seeing off Wanyoike.

"It wasn't easy I just made sure I was composed because I knew the competition was tight; every opponent was hard," Mihigo said on return from the championship.

The Ndejje University student has had a successful year to-date and earlier registered an unbeaten run in the league for Ndejje and also won the men's doubles in the City Tyres Open when he paired with Ebayo.

He also competed in the All Africa University games in Mekele, Ethiopia and in the Nakuru East African Challenge where he got silver and bronze in the singles and mixed doubles and won both the singles and mixed doubles respectively.

Another Ugandan Gladys Mbabazi beat Brenda Awori 2-1 to win the women singles while Mbabazi and Betty Apio won the women's doubles 2-0 (21-6,21-5) against Awori and Namakoye.
