Celebrating World Post Day

On 9th October 2018, Uganda joined the rest of the World to celebrate World Post Day. On this day, the Post raises awareness of its role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development. To mark celebrations of this important day on the postal calendar, Uganda Post Limited will hold its celebrations in Gulu where a number of activities have been lined up to commemorate the day.

Premised on the Universal Postal Union's three objectives of innovation, integration and inclusion, Uganda Post Limited's focus has been placed on positioning our infrastructure to be the delivery of choice for government to meet the national development goals.

As a National Operator of Postal Services, we have a very unique characteristic; we receive no tax shillings to fund our operations; the cost of our operations are funded by revenue that is generated through our products and services. With our resource envelope we are able to undertake a number of initiatives to spar our contribution to the development of our country, this includes among others the creation of an e-commerce platform that will enable our customers to transact online and access various parcel products across the globe which will be easily conveyed by our EMS courier unit.

The Post through partnership with Post Bank Uganda and funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) commissioned a project in Masindi aimed at scaling up remittances and financial inclusion among the rural populace with a focus on refugees and immigrants. This will provide access to remittance services through a network of 49 Post Offices across the country at a reduced cost especially from major diaspora corridors.

In the same regard, through funding from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the RCDF, ICT Public Access Information Centre's (CICs) are being established in 14 selected Post Offices across the country. These will serve as access centers for integrated e-government services, government programs, and as training facilities for digital literacy.
