Uganda Martyrs University career fair excites students

Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi (UMU) on Thursday (September 20) put up an exciting career fair at Protea Hotel, Kampala.

The fair attracted students from schools like Naalya High School, St Joseph’s Secondary School, Nsambya, Seeta High School and Mount St Mary’s College, Namagunga.

The function was manned by senior dons, alumni and student-leaders of UMU, who engaged the students in an interactive discussion of various issues that pertain to quality higher education, employment, employability, entrepreneurship, job creation, professional competitiveness and development.

John Emmanuel Etiang advised the students to pursue courses that are applicable in areas like tourism, real-estate and construction, hospitality, ICT, fashion and beauty, entertainment and media, among others. 

He argues that with the rising population, regional integration and improving economic and social environment, the demand for services in those areas will shoot up sharply and those that will be involved in related business activities will earn lucratively.

The students later toured an exhibition of products by the entrepreneurial alumni and students of the University.

The products exhibited included among others energy saving stoves, art-crafts and sugar-cane value additional products. The exhibition was one of the precursor activities for the 25th anniversary of the university, which will take place at the main campus at Nkozi in November, this year.
