The second edition of the Universities Floodlights Basketball League, tip-off Thursday with Entebbe side Nkumba hosting Ndejje University in a tough contest.

Both sides are promising victory, but Ndejje coach Walker Obedi went a step further by vowing to win both the men and women trophies.

"We won the men's trophy and we would be out to defend it, but we also need the women trophy and we shall go out for it," Obedi said after the launch of the event in Mengo.

Ndejje are the defending champions in the men's category, while Nkumba are champions in the women's category.

According to the organisers, the top two teams in each pool will qualifying for the final.

"Uganda Christian University and Bugema have joined the league this year and we shall be having ten teams playing in two pools with the top two teams qualifying for the final," Vicent Kisenyi the vice chairman AUUS said.

"We shall play these games in Universities with floodlights from September 25 to November 3 when the final shall be held," he added.

The games will be played every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday so that they can end in time before students get holidays.
