Ugandan diplomat passes on

Mbabazi, who served as the first secretary at the Uganda High Commission in India, lost the battle to cancer of the lungs at 46 years of age.

Once a diplomat at Uganda's Delhi based embassy in India, Samatha Sherurah Mbabazi, who died recently has been honoured for her great contribution to the country.

Addressing mourners who attended a funeral service in her honour at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero on Friday, the family doctor, Dr. Aggrey Bukulu, disclosed that by the time of her death , the cancer had spread  to all the organs causing kidney failure.

The late Mbabazi who has lived a diplomatic life had also worked with the  Ugandan Embassy in New York  and  a pioneer first secretary  at Uganda's embassy in Malaysia before being transferred to Uganda High Commission of  India where she was at the time of her death.

 Mbabazi was praised for being focused, fearless, open minded and above all standing for whatever she believed in.

Her mother, Elizabeth Sherurah described Mbabazi as a family rock in terms of support, not only to her family but her friends as well. 

Elizabeth said although she was the second born of the four children, she used to take on  tasks and deliver the best results with or without favour.

State minister  for  general duties in the prime minister's  office, Mary  Karooro Okurut called for prioritised treatment of cancer as it continues to spread at a rapid spread.

She said the current cancer treatment was painful and an alternative measure to control the disease should be sought.

 Mbabazi was born in 1972 to Sherurah family as second born of the four children

She will be buried in Mirama Mitoma Central-Kiruhura district on September 22, 2018
