Seventeen charged in Mityana

COURT

MITYANA-Seventeen people were on Friday taken to court in Mityana and charged with disobeying statutory duties.

The accused had been arrested last month in Mityana town, during protests, following the arrest of the municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake and Kyandodo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi.

Appearing before the Grade one magistrate Evelyne Kyomugisha, all the accused were granted a non cash bail of one million and are to return to court on October 19.

The accused are; Deo Ssenkali, Mike Ntambi, Paul Mtobu, Samuel Lubowa, Godfrey Kawunge, mohhamed Mablire,Livingstone Ssekitoleko, Bashir Kwizera, Bosco Matovu, Alex Saazi, Sam Muwaya and others.

Present at the magistrate’s court was Ingrid Turinawe from the Forum for Democratic Change  (FDC), and about three others who had accompanied her.

She said that the party’s leadership had assigned them to follow-up on all those who were arrested and ensure that they are released.

As the accused were being charged, no political leader from Mityana attended the court hearing, apart from Susan Nanyonjo, a former mayoral candidate for Mityana.

Fred Wtotonava, the mayor for central division said he had failed to attend because he was  at the swearing-in ceremony for the LC1 chairpersons.
