India's top artist arrives in Uganda for India Day

Considered to be one of the most popular voices for romantic as well as melodious songs, Shaan is scheduled to perform alongside Uganda’s Irene Ntale, who sings RnB, reggae and acoustic soul.

India's top performing artist, Shantanu Mukherjee best known as  Shaan has arrived in the country to perform at the India Day celebrations at Kololo Airstrip on Saturday night, one of the biggest entertainment events for the Indian community in Uganda.

 

Considered to be one of the most popular voices for romantic as well as melodious songs, Shaan is scheduled to perform alongside Uganda's Irene Ntale, who sings RnB, reggae and acoustic soul. Several other local artists are scheduled to perform for the crowd at the event.

 

Shaan arrived at about 11:00am on Friday and was ushered through the VIP section of Entebbe International Airport, in the company of his co-singer, Anisha Saikia from Mumbai in India and his band members.

He was received by Rajesh Kumar, the chairperson of the India Day organising committee and other prominent members of the community, including Goutam Das.

 

One of India's most versatile singers, Shaan commented that he was excited to perform at the same venue where the Indian PM, Narendra Modi was recently hosted.The 46-year old artist has a record of a variety of songs of different genres such as pop, sad songs, patriotic, jazz, ghazals, hip-hop, rock and many more, mainly in different languages of India and Pakistan.

 He said he was also learning songs in Luganda, one of the popular languages in Uganda. He is scheduled to sing with  Ntale.

"This is my first visit to the Pearl of Africa, Uganda. I hope to sing a number of songs for my audience, which will give them long lasting memories," he stated.

 

According to Shaan, money collected at the event will go  to heart surgeries of mainly children in Uganda as well as promoting education.

"Apart from entertainment, this is at the same time a social cause for the under-privileged and sick children in Uganda," he said in an interview at the VIP lounge.  

 

Shaan who started his career at the age of 17, has earned several titles from the media and fans such as the ‘Voice of India', ‘Voice of Paradise', ‘Magician of Melody' and ‘Voice of Youth'.

 

"I am looking forward to performing a duet with Irene Ntale, who I have learnt  is one of Uganda's finest artists," he said.
