Doctors ask Gov't allow Bobi Wine, Zaake get treatment abroad

KAMPALA - Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has asked Government to allow Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake to seek medical care overseas.

The Mps tried to seek assistance from the Government to facilitate their medical travel abroad, but they had been blocked by the medical board.

However, their families decided to raise money to foot the travel and medical bills privately.

Addressing a press conference at Shanghai Restaurant UMA Secretary General Dr Mukuzi Muhereza said every patient should be treated with respect adding that they should also be able to choose a health facility and doctor of their choice.

Kyagulanyi and Zaake succumbed to tourture that affected their health under Police custody.

The MPs and over 30 others are accused by Government of stoning President Yoweri Museveni's convoy on August 13 in Arua.

Their arrest and alleged torture sparked off countrywide protests in Uganda and abroad. They were charged with treason and are currently out on bail.
