Dates: Sept 17-21
Venue: Makerere University

The national team will be trimmed to 12 players today ahead of the World University Netball Championship to be hosted in Kampala from September 17 to 21.

The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) summoned 17 players who have been training at their respective institutions since June this year.

Team manager Florence Nakamya said the team has to start serious preparations at Lugogo.

"We are running out of time and that's why we need to have the team reduced to the standard number so as to start serious preparations," said Nakamya.

Nakamya added that the three university students (Joan Nampungu, Betty Kizza and Mary Nuba) on the She Cranes team that won the African Netball Championship in Lusaka, Zambia will get automatic entries on the team.

"Just being on the She Cranes means that you are a good player and that is the reason we want to retain the three girls because their experience would add value to the team," she stated.

"Players who also made it on the team for the East Africa Community Games that ended in Burundi will also be given priority unlike those who have not been at any international event."

AUUS officials believe that Ugandan players will make a mark at the event in Makerere.
