The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has demanded that the Electoral Commission be left to do its work without any kind of interference.

Addressing journalists during the weekly party press conference at the party headquarters located at Uganda House on Monday, the Party spokesperson, Michael Osinde, backed the commission, saying there has been improvement in the management of elections recently.

President Yoweri Museveni has expressed his displeasure with the Commission, which he has blamed for grossly mismanaging recent elections.

The President said he was considering getting rid of the team which is "full of rotten people."

The President remarked while gracing the handover ceremony of 128 newly elected women district chairpersons at Hotel Africana in Kampala on Monday.

The President further blamed the electoral commission for importing ghost voters into the register, specifically in reference to Jinja East by-elections where FDC's Paul Mwiru beat NRM flag bearer Nathan Igeme Nabeta.

Faced with the President's criticism and a threat of disbandment, the Electoral Commission has appointed a committee to review some of the concerns raised.

In a statement released yesterday, the commission chairman Justice Simon Byabakama said his team has started reviewing the concerns raised by the president more especially with the voters' register.

UPC said the President may have issues with the Commission, but this does not take away the registered improvement recently requesting the president to hear it out.
