Kenya’s Vice President William Ruto pledged Ksh10m

President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday pledged sh400m at the fundraising ceremony for the construction of St Peter's Cathedral in Kapchorwa.

Museveni who was accompanied by Kenya's Vice President William Ruto, cut short the auctioning of two bulls by pledging sh400m for them.

Ruto said that the Kenyan delegation would contribute Ksh10m (approx. sh350m), before the two laying a foundation stone with Museveni for the cathedral which is under Sebei Diocese.

Museveni then implored the guests present including Members of Parliament, to make their contributions. About sh843m was collected in form of cash and pledges.

The President used the occasion to reveal that the pledge he made to deliver tractors would be fulfilled on August 28.

He also congratulated Sebei athletes and thanked them for giving Uganda a good name in Africa and the world at large. He went ahead to voice his commitment and support for sports, pledging to build high altitude training centres in schools.

"My biggest excitement has been the unveiling of the cathedral foundation stone because the church brings people of the Lord together, and I know we shall have a good house for," Rt Rev. Bishop Paul Masaba of Sebei Diocese said.

He also thanked Museveni for commissioning construction works on Kapchorwa-Suam road, which he said had been a problem to the area for the last 50 years.
