Uganda's Gazelles collapsed in the second half as they lost 63-29 to Angola at the Africa U-18 Basketball Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.

The Mavita Ali led side put up a spirited fight in the first two quarters, but failed to keep up when Angola turned up the heat in the second half.

"The team lost composure in the second half. We have to work on our offence movement to be able to get more opportunities," Ali said.

She believes that the occasion got to the team especially since they have never played basketball at such a high level.

"They are playing for the first time at this level so they are learning how high stakes are. Despite the low scores, they did play to the best of their ability and with passion," she explained.

Today, the girls have a bigger challenge, they will face three time defending champions Mali who made quick work of Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday with a 99-33 thrashing.

"We play Mali, the defending champs, we plan to play together more and work as a unit," She promised.

The journey gets tougher from here on out but the team will be learning something new each day.
