Lance Corporal Geoffrey Odaga is now in custody

Three people were shot dead in bar at Kabedo-Opong trading centre in Bardege division by a UPDF soldier at around midnight.

The soldier, Lance Corporal Geoffrey Odaga who is now in custody, reportedly went to the bar with an AK-47 assault rifle and ordered the people in the bar to lie down.

According to an eyewitnesses, Odaga shot and killed a man identified as Fred Yasin, before gunning down Sunday Anywar, the owner of the bar. The other person killed is thought to be a student at Gulu University.

Another witness said Odaga left the bar and while along the road to Laliya trading centre, shot and injured another man whose is yet to be identified.

Robert Acaye Alli, the LC4 for Kabedo-Opong told Radio Rupiny that they were to hold an emergency meeting to see how best they can improve the security in the area.

Acaye said the UPDF 4th Division commander should restrict the movement of guns from the barracks especially at night.

"We are appealing to the 4th division commander to make sure that they control the movement of guns. The soldiers should not be able to come and kill innocent people," Acaye said.

Patrick Lumumba the chairman LC3 for Bardege said they will hold security meetings with all bar owners.

He condemned the murders saying they are a threat to the development of Bardege division.
