Depending on Nakanyike's performance at the championship, more could come her way from Kawuma, whose children are greatly involved in the sport. One of his sons Patrick Kawuma is the highest ranked Ugandan Chess player in the country.

Kawuma presented the cash to Nakanyike's dad and Coach Augustine Buwule early this week promising to help the youngster further if she performs well in the Kisumu event.

Nakanyike is also scheduled to compete in the World Cadet Chess Championships which will take place in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, November 3-16.

"We want to thank the professor for his generosity and passion for the sport which is reflected by the performance of his children. He has demonstrated that you don't need to be a participant to contribute to the development of the sport; we hope to continue working with him to support the cause of developing chess in schools," Buwule said.

Kawuma, a former old boy of Ntare also wants to promote the sport in ten primary and ten secondary schools in Mbarara according to Buwule who will run the clinics alongside other coaches.
