BUGIRI- Two supporters of the ruling NRM party are nursing serious injuries after being attacked by masked men in Busanzi village, Bugiri municipal council.

The two, Faizo Mugoya and Yazid Umaru, were attacked as they returned back from a campaign rally that was held at Bukooli technical institute at around 9:30pm.

Mugoya, who serves as a disco jockey on the NRM flagbearers' convoy, said he had just jumped off the lorry that was carrying the music system and supporters when he was stabbed by two masked men at Busanzi village.

He said at first he took it lightly, but later realised that he had been stabbed after sighting blood oozing from his abdomen.

He rang Police who rushed him to Bugiri main hospital before being transferred to a private clinic.

Mugoya, 27,  suspects the attackers wanted to do away with his life since he is a staunch supporter of the NRM flagbearer John Francis Oketcho.
"I am always doing my songs whenever we go for rallies, but I don't attack any other candidate," he said.

Yazid Umaru, who was also stabbed in the abdomen, was transferred to Jinja main hospital, said his life was in danger due to the huge wounds he incurred after being stabbed.
According to an eyewitness, Hajji Meddy Alimansi, who owns a shop near the scene, the two masked men had earlier pitched camp near by before the attack.

Alimansi said the two masked men later fled towards Kirongero village on a motorcycle after the attack.

The NRM flagbearer, John Francis Oketcho, accuses supporters of his main opponent Asuman Basalirwa of being behind the attack.
"He brought people from Kyandondo who are causing all this mess in the campaigns," he said.
However, Asuman Basalirwa, said his supporters have always maintained peace during the campaign period.

The district Police commander, Jeff Sebuyungo, said no one had been arrested in connection with the attack.
