KIGALI - The National Women football team, Crested Cranes had a flying start in the CECAFA Women Challenge Cup.

This comes after they beat neighbours Kenya 1-0 today afternoon in Kigali, Rwanda.

This was a sweet revenge for Uganda who had previously not picked a victory against Kenya in the last four games they had played earlier.

Lilian Mutuuzo's seventh minute strike made the difference between Uganda and Kenya.

Uganda will be back in action again on Saturday when they play Ethiopia.

The Challenge Cup that is played in a league format to determine the champion will run untill July 27.

The tournament was supposed to be held in May, but the organisers decided to postpone it in order to get ample time to prepare.

Hosts Rwanda, Tanzania and Ethiopia are the other teams in the contest.

Tanzania are the defending champions of the event that was last held in Uganda in 2016 at FUFA Technical Centre,Njeru.

Tanzania beat arch rivals Kenya 2-1 to win the title. On their part, the Crested Cranes finished fourth after falling to Ethiopia 4-1 in the third place play-off.
