Tiperu takes NRM flag in Arua

She defeated seven other candidates after polling 1,798 votes out of 20, 554 votes cast followed by Swadick Angupale with 1,443 votes.

Former East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Nusura Tiperu has just been declared the winner in the NRM primaries in Arua Municipality.

Tiperu now becomes the flag-bearer of the NRM party in the Arua municipality parliamentary by-elections scheduled for August 15.

She defeated seven other candidates after polling 1,798 votes out of 20, 554 votes cast followed by Swadick Angupale with 1,443 votes.

Atima Lee Jackson got 1,362 followed by John Lematia who garnered 203 votes.

Aluma Mohammed got 183, Ejua Simon got 118 followed Obiga Godfrey who polled 91 votes while Mubarak Khalifan trailed with 59 votes.

While declaring the results at Arua municipal council boardroom on Wednesday evening, the chairperson NRM electoral commission Dr. Tanga Odoi apologized for the hiccups in the electoral process.

The vice chairperson NRM Northern region Sam Engola blamed the hiccups in the primaries to the lack of funds.
