Uganda Cranes prep for 2019 AFCON Qualifier

The national side will on Saturday face a select side from Kitara region in a game meant to improve the player’s fitness levels ahead of the qualifiers.

KAMPALA - Uganda Cranes players will use this weekend regional tour match as a buildup to prepare themselves ahead for the 2019 AFCON Qualifier with Tanzania on September 7 at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

The national side will on Saturday face a select side from Kitara region in a game meant to improve the player's fitness levels ahead of the qualifiers and also open the Cranes brand to different people within the area.

Exciting youngster Ivan Eyam is one of the players that were summoned for the national duty. Eyam who recently joined Mbarara City from Kataka FC was part of the Uganda Hippos (U-20 team) that competed in the 2019 TOTAL U-20 Cup of Nations Qualifiers despite being eliminated by Cameroon in the second round.

The Twenty players that were summoned for regional tour will expected to start training today evening (Wednesday) at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo. The team will travel to Kasese on Friday morning.

Those who will impress the technical team after regional tour match are likely to be included in the final squad that will be summoned ahead of Tanzanian game in the Qualifiers.

Cranes top Group L (3 points) which consists of Tanzania, Lesotho and Cape Verde. They beat Cape Verde 1-0 in the opening game of the qualifiers last year.
