ACCIDENT

IGANGA - Residents of Iganga are mourning the death of a prominent disco jockey, who was reportedly hit by a trailer at Busei trading center on the Iganga-Bugiri highway.

The vehicle that knocked dead DJ Ramathan Waiswa (pictured) was said to be headed for Kampala from Busia.

The accident happened at around 4am Thursday, and it was confirmed by Iganga district Police commander Nsambu Nditta.

There were claims that Waiswa had been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped along the road by some unknown people to conceal evidence.

However, Nditta rubbished the allegations.

The DPC said Waiswa's body was taken for a postmortem examination at Iganga Hospital Mortuary and his death pointed to injuries suffered from being hit by a moving vehicle.

His family was due to collect the body.

Residents said that hours before his death, Waiswa had attended a music show on Wednesday at the Iganga saza ground.

He is said to have later headed back home at around 9:30pm.

Waiswa's girlfriend, Shifa Namukose, was arrested by Police on Thursday for questioning. She was later released after the autopsy results indicated the DJ had been knocked dead.

The driver of the trailer was also arrested at Iganga Central Police Station.

Nditta said the driver is due to appear before court to answer charges of careless driving and overspeeding.
