ANNUAL DAY FOR UGANDA MARTYRS HIGH SCHOOL, RUBAGA

The Bishop Emeritus of Moroto Catholic Diocese, Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo, has asked parents to be more committed to their natural responsibility of giving their children moral and religious guidance. He decried the growing culture of immorality and permissiveness, which he attributed to the failure of parents and guardians to inculcate moral and religious values in their children.

"The family is the domestic Church and school, where children are given the moral and religious foundation that they require to grow and become responsible adults. Parents must therefore not shy away from their God-given duty of teaching their children morals and religious values. If our children get a solid moral and religious foundation, problems like corruption, violence, environmental degradation, permissiveness and lack of respect for life will be overcome."

Bishop Ssentongo was presiding over the celebrations for the annual day of Uganda Martyrs High School, Rubaga, which was held at the school in Rubaga Division on Sunday.  The day-long function was graced by students, parents, alumni and friends of the school.

Bishop Ssentongo later asked students to develop a sense of confidence, which will always enable them to take up their challenges with faith and determination. Earlier during mass, Ssentongo confirmed a number of students into the Catholic faith. There were also students who received Holy Communion for the first time.

The headteacher of the school, Rev Bro Leonard Nsubuga, thanked the parents and benefactors for supporting the school.

The chairman of the Old Boys, John Ssekamatte Ssebuliba, pledged the association's commitment to supporting the school's academic and development projects.

The function was also graced by the Chairman of the school's Board of Governors, Rev Bro Dr Bernard Luwerekera, and Rev Bro Rogers Kazibwe, who represented the Provincial Superior of the Brothers of Christian Instruction (the Very Rev Bro Peter Kazzekulya).

During the function, the guests were entertained by the school's brass ensemble (Eclipse Brass Band). The students' cultural ensemble also gave entertainment.
