USPA to reward Cheptegei

KAMPALA - Double Gold Medalist in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Joshua Cheptegei will on Wednesday July 11, 2018 be recognised by the Nile Special and Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA). 

The awards will take place during the quarterly dinner at Imperial Royale hotel.

At the same dinner, the Uganda Cricket Cranes that won the Division four league to be promoted to Division three and Nkumba University Women Volleyball Club for winning the Genocide cup will also be recognised.

The three winners will also receive sh500,000 each as cash prize courtesy from Nile Special.

According to USPA president, Sabiiti Muwanga the recognition of the athletes is meant to motivate them and encourage those who have not yet won to work harder.

"As USPA we feel that recognising these athletes is a way of appreciating their efforts which motivates them to work harder for better a performance. It also encourages those who have not won to work harder and win," Muwanga said.

Muwanga added that the dinner comes a week to the prestigious annual Nile Special- USPA Gala due on July 20 in which the association will be celebrating 48years of existence.

At the gala, individual sports personalities of the year in the various sports disciplines including football, rugby, volleyball, cricket, basketball, pool, handball, boxing and body building will be appreciated in a special way.

The event will be climaxed with the crowning of the Sports Personality of the year of which the nominees include rugby star Philip Wokorach, netball team captain, Peace Proscovia and former KCCA top marksman, Geoffrey Sserunkuma.
