Teso urged to take advantage of Uganda's peace

SOROTI - The NRM government, has been commended for the peace and security that is being enjoyed in the country.

According to the Soroti district LC5 Chairperson, George Michael Egunyu, the country is now able to attract both local and international investors because of the peace and tranquility that the country and different regions are enjoying.


"We are in the sure path of development and I want to assure all the detractors that we are in a better state now than ever," Egunyu told the New vision reporter in an exclusive interview in Soroti town on Friday.

Engunyu said Uganda has never experienced such peace before.Thanks to the ruling government, led by President Yoweri Museveni.


"We now have a peaceful country that allows us to work to reach the middle income status and more," said Egunyu.

He appealed to President Museveni to mobilise for Teso region more investors to set up  factories in the industrial park located in Arapai Sub County. "We will offer them the conducive environment to operate in," he said.

Egunyu appreciated the President for the establishment of Soroti University of Science and Technology.

It is the first public university in Teso. According to Engunyu, it  will contribute immensely to the development of the region.

"The buildings are magnificent and very attractive for university learners. Also the choices of the courses are strategic since the university focuses on sciences and technology," says Egunyu.


"Our children will study relevant courses that can make them marketable in the job market."

He appealed to the President to intervene and ensure that medical and engineering courses are not diluted.

"The long awaited Soroti fruit factory is now fully established and the people of Soroti and entire Teso region have all reasons to be happy with the President and NRM," Egunyu noted.

He says the factory is a big economic boost to the economy of Teso. He says people will soon be selling their citrus fruits to this factory and will be able to earn income to improve on their households.

Egunyu also said that the factory will be a big source of employment to the many unemployed youth in Teso.

"NRM government is making many big strides and milestones through the tarmarcking of Soroti-Katakwi-Moroto and Soroti Municipality.

"This is a big relief and boost to the economic development of this region.  As leaders, we can affirm to our people that this is a fundamental transformation of our region," Egunyu said.

He said the responsibility is now on Teso people to increase on production and mobilise the people to take advantage of this road to market and trade both within and outside Teso.
