Kabale bus accident claims one

The trailer had a head-on collision with the bus at the spot where the road cracked recently.

ROAD ACCIDENT

The accident involving Modern Coast Bus registration number UBA 067Y and trailer registration number T467 BFX at Kyonyo trading Centre, along Kabale-Katuna road has left one person dead with several people injured.

The Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, said the trailer had a head-on collision with the bus at the spot where the road cracked recently. He said the accident happened on Monday morning at 05:30 am.

"The turn man of the trailer Samson Onyango Agutu, 24, a Kenyan, died on spot and four others from the bus were seriously injured. They include Phionah Kamikazi, 28, and Hamina Jasibu, 24, both of Kagarama in Kigali Rwanda. Others are, Eridoni Mageto, 24, the bus conductor and Peter Omboga, 60, both Kenyan Nationals plus few others also got minor injuries," said Maate in a telephone link with New Vision.

Maate said the bus was from Kenya heading to Kigali Rwanda while the trailer was from Katuna to Kampala. He said on getting the information of the accident, Police responded swiftly and the injured were rushed to Kabale hospital.

"Fire brigade struggled and removed the bus driver, David Nyaga, of Kenyan nationality who was stuck in the bus. The driver got a left fractured leg and Kamikazi got a fractured right leg. Inquiries to establish the cause of accident are underway," he stated.

Maate added:  "Normally, between that time (around 5:00am),there is always mist that may cause drivers not to see well and sometimes the drivers are tired having driven the entire night. However, for now we cannot rule out the cause. I want to call drivers to always take road safety precautions seriously to avoid such occurrence."
