KAMPALA - Commissioner of Prisons Julius Aloka has given Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) the green light to go ahead and introduce inmates at Luzira to Sports Management courses.

"We are very pleased to partner with UOC and now the good news is that both the prison officers and inmates will get the same skills," Aloka said.

He made the remarks in response to an appeal by the UOC boss William Blick to carry out a Sports management course with inmates at Luzira next year.

Aloka was representing the Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabashaija at the UOC graduation ceremony at Lugogo.

Meanwhile, earlier at the same function, Blick said that inmates, just like the warders and wardresses, must not be deprived of the right to acquire sports management skills.

"We started with the prisons officials who were so positive about the Sports Management course and now we want to use the same officials to pass on the knowledge to the inmates," Blick stated.

"They do have the right to learn new skills and I know they will be excited to participate in these courses," he added.

Last week 30 prison warders and 9 wardresses accomplished a certificate course in Sports Management that was held at the Luzira Maximum Prison in Kampala.

However, Blick later disclosed their future plans of introducing the Anti-Doping course next year.

"We need to introduce the Anti-Doping administration course because we feel it's what is letting our athletes down at most of the championships," he said.

This year alone, UOC has conducted diploma and certificate course in Sports Management that have attracted over 100 participants.
