CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE ENDEV CLEAN COOKING INNOVATION AWARD

GIZ Energising Development (EnDev) Uganda Programme, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) Uganda, facilitates access to modern energy services for households, social institutions and small and medium enterprises through market development for improved cook stoves (ICS) and solar PV, as well as grid densification and mini-grid projects.

In its stove component, GIZ Energising Development (EnDev) Uganda is using a market based approach to establish stove distribution networks particularly in rural and peri - urban areas.

Through strategic partnerships with stove producing companies, access to better and improved cook stoves is facilitated in the form of capacity and product development, through trainings, business incubation and strengthening of market linkages.

All this is aimed at creating sustainable stove access structures through self-sustained commercial models. While the number of private companies active in the clean and efficient cooking sector is growing, these stakeholders still face challenges in regard to production, distribution and end-user financing.

Faster and more widespread innovation is needed to overcome these obstacles and to increase the impact of clean and efficient cooking technologies among the Ugandan population. EnDev Uganda is therefore challenging the private sector to develop innovative clean and efficient cooking products, services and financing mechanisms that can solve social and environmental issues while at the same time maximizing their competitiveness and profitability.
