Nominees for 'Africa's Oscar'- Saturday

The nominees over 29 categories, including film and TV, will be revealed by Ghanaian actress and TV host, Joselyn Dumas and Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi.

KAMPALA - Nominees for this year's Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCAs), also known as ‘African Oscars', is slated for this Saturday evening.
 
According to a release issued by Multichoice Uganda, the 2018 nominees will be announced via a televised broadcast on all Africa Magic Channels on both DStv and GOtv at 9pm Ugandan time.
 
The nominees over 29 categories, including film and TV, will be revealed by Ghanaian actress and TV host, Joselyn Dumas and Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi.
 
The AMVCAs have been held annually by Multichoice since 2013, and recognise outstanding achievement in television and film and are voted on by the general public. This year's entries opened in February and closed on April 30.
 
Ugandan has seen nominations almost every year since the beginning, but only has one winner to date, when Matthew Nabwiso won Best Supporting Actor for the short film ‘A God Catholic' Girl in 2013.
 
In 2016 filmmaker Joseph Ken Ssebaggala had four nominations for his film ‘House Arrest', but did not win any. Other Ugandan nominees were Michael Wawuyo for Best Make-Up artist in 2015, and ‘Beneath the Lies' for Best Television Series in 2017.
 
In other news Nigerian veteran film and television professional, Deborah "Debbie" Odutayo was named as the Head Judge for this year's awards.
 
She has been on the judging panel since the AMCAs inception in 2013.
