KAMPALA - It was a sign of relief for the embattled Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze when the Police granted her bond Wednesday after spending 10 days in detention.

On June 13, the Police arrested Nambooze over offensive communication and computer misuse in connection to the murder of former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

However, following the arrest, Nambooze's life deteriorated behind the police cell bars at Naggalama.

She was rushed to Kiruddu hospital where she has since been admitted.

Abiriga was gunned down by unknown assailants traveling on two Boda-Bodas on June 8, 2018 at about 6:30pm at Kaayi trading centre, few meters away from his home.

Abiriga was killed together with his body guard and brother, Sayid Buga Kongo.

Nambooze has been ordered to report back to the commissioner homicide Police department at Kibuli on Friday.

She has also appended her signature on the bond dated June 27 seen by NewVision.

In unusual practice, Nambooze, who is also charged with inciting violence was granted bond without any surety.

Nambooze vows not surrender phones

Meanwhile, the Mukono MP has filed an application at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate's Court seeking to block surrendering her cell phones, laptop and computers to police.

Through Lukwago and company advocates, Nambooze contends that surrendering her cell phone to police violates her right to privacy.

She also argues that the computer and tablet belongs to parliament and it is only the speaker that can allow police's access to them.

"The computer and tablets contains secrets of others Members of Parliament and I can only surrender them on the orders of the speaker," she contends.

Last week, the Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate, Jameson Karemani granted police permission to seize Nambooze's cel lphones, laptop and computer to help them in investigations.

Police was allowed custody of Nambooze's cel lphones for only fourteen days.

This followed an application by the Detective Assistant Inspector of Police (D/AIP),  Iman Were.

"This is an application seeking court orders to search and seize mobile phones, tablets and computers belonging to MP Nambooze for extraction and data relevant to the police ongoing investigations against her," Were stated.
