Even in retirement, former Cranes striker Hassan Mubiru is still a hot item.

The former SC Villa and Express FC striker emerged as the Most Valuable Player during the one-day inaugural edition of the Kabira Country Club football tournament at Kabira Country Club on Sunday.

Mubiru did not only walk away with the MVP accolade, but also inspired Pro Zone FC that comprised of former Cranes internationals to the trophy and sh1m cash prize.

But it was Mujib Kasule who notched the all-important goal in the final against Victoria University to take home the trophy, bragging rights and the cash in the five-a-side tournament.

En-route to the final, Pro Zone beat Hisense 4-0, Kabir Signs EA 3-1, Elephants 3-0, and YO KUKU 3-0 to top Group A, before they eliminated JMB FC with a 4-1 score in the quarter finals and Cipla 2-1 in the semifinals.

On their part Victoria University who emerged as runners in Group C behind Cipla, opened with a 3-1 loss to Cipla before they registered identical 2-0 scores over Kabira Country Club and BetYetu before 1-1 draws against Steady FC and Club 194 and wound up their group matches with a commanding 4-0 win over Dongo Boys. Cipla's Moses Kifumba was the top scorer with 14 goals.

Pro Zone captained by Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko, had the likes of Nestroy Kizito, Hakim Magumba, Hassan Mubiru, Abdallah Mubiru, Joseph Mutyaba and Simeom Masaba all former Cranes players.

Kabira Country Club's Ranjiv Ruparelia advised participants to ensure fair play in subsequent editions of the tournament and to also respect match officials' decisions while FUFA Football Development Director Ali Mwebe promised more technical support to the tournament that will have four editions every year. The second edition will be held in October.
