UCA appoints new CEO: Ondeko ticks the boxes

Ondeko made the cut after upstaging Abhishek Shekhawat from India, Kobus Olivier from South Africa and Quentin Von Stieglitx from Australia.

KAMPALA - Done and dusted. Uganda Cricket Association have appointed a new CEO, the 33- year old Martin Ondeko. The New Vision understands.
 
Ondeko made the cut after upstaging Abhishek Shekhawat from India, Kobus Olivier from South Africa and Quentin Von Stieglitx from Australia who had made the final four-man shortlist.
 
It is important to note that the job attracted a lot of attention world over when it was announced. The appointing committee headed by Paul Kaheru reported 25 applications for the  job.
 
"I'm pleased to pass on the mantle to someone I have gladly worked with. I hope he continues with the progress" said outgoing CEO, Justine Ligyalingi Friday at Cooper Chimney Restaurant, lugogo.
 
Ondeko becomes the third CEO after Justine Ligyalingi and Muhumuza Mpeka and having worked at different positions in the association since 2009, he anticipates great things for the gentleman's game
 
"I have gathered enough experience along the way. I believe I'm ready to take the game to new heights" he said.
 
He attended a governance course at Wits University, Sports Management course from University of London, Leadership Course from the ICC Global Academy in 2017 and a Certified level two Coaching Course.
 
In UCA he worked as an Adminstrative Officer, Operations Officer and acting CEO until his time of appointment at the helm of Cricket. He is set to work under a three-year term.
 
Having a CEO is a prerequisite of funding from the world governing body International Cricket Council (ICC).
