NTUNGAMO - Paul Mucureezi was out to save the day as Ankole Province made it to the quarterfinals of the FUFA Drum Competition.
 
The KCCA FC midfielder who was also named the man of the match notched a brace as Ankole came from 2-0 down to defeat West Nile 3-2 at the Kyamate play ground in Ntungamo district over the weekend.
 
Mucureezi received his man of the match accolade from his father Rev Canon Jonathan Bwanahoro.
 
Meanwhile, Karamoja settled to a goalless draw with Tooro at Boma play ground in Moroto.
 
Lameck Ebong scored the other goal for Ankole while Alfred Leku and Fred Amaku were on target for West Nile.
 
The victory saw Ankole move to nine points in Group D, two below leaders West Nile as the final games of the group stages came to an end over the weekend.
 
The two provinces made it to the last eight.
 
In Group C, David Owori and Jackson Komakech each had a goal as Bukedi Province beat Rwenzori Province 2-0 at the Pallisa Hospital play ground while Kampala went down 1-0 to Bunyoro.
 
Despite the defeat, Kampala qualified to the quarterfinals as group leaders with 12 points while Bukedi came second with nine points.
 
In Group B, goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato scored the lone goal through a penalty as Buganda beat Acholi 1-0 at Bishop S.S, Mukono while Ivan Oree and Allan Okello scored for Lango as the defeated Kigezi 2-0 at the Uganda Technical College in Lira.
 
Acholi and Buganda qualified for the last eight after each collected 11 and 10 points respectively.
 
In Group A, Busoga humbled Sebei 4-0 at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe in Jinja.
 
Hamis Tibita scored a double before Anthony Mayanja and Richard Wandyaka added the other goals for Busoga who qualified for the quarterfinals.
 
The second Province to make to the quarterfinal from Group A is still not known after the match between Teso and Bugisu was aborted in the 75th minute (0-0) due to fans violence in Katakwi. 
 
The organising committee will come out with final verdict after studying the match referee's report.
 
Each of the players that was voted the man of the match walked away with sh100,000 cash prize and an accloade.
 
Bugisu Province's  James Alitho leads the scoring chart with eight goals.
