Volleyball: Boma to host Aporu tourney

The annual tournament has attracted more than 50 local volleyball teams and will last for three days.

BOMA - This year's Dr. George Edward Aporu Okol International volleyball tournament will serve off Friday at Boma Grounds in Kumi.
 
The annual tournament has attracted more than 50 local volleyball teams and will last for three days beginning with primary and secondary schools games categories on Friday.
 
Clubs and corporate teams will serve off their games on Saturday and the tournament will end on Sunday, however the Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) champions Nkumba University ladies team are set to win the championships as well.
 
The ladies have also won the National League in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2017 as well as the National Club Champions 2007, 2011 & 2013.
 
After emerging champions over the weekend when they beat Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) 3-1, the girls promised to win the domestic tournament.
 
Nkumba's attacker Astreede Agaaba who also won Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the GMT award promised to lead her side to victory in the Aporu tourney.
 
"This is the beginning of our victory back home, we are now focusing on winning the next tournament home," Astreede promised after winning the GMT trophy.
 
Sport-S are the 2017 champions after beating Sky 3-0 in the men's category while VVC trounced Sport-S 3-1 in the women's category.
 
However, Luyanzi SS retained the secondary school trophy in the boy's category defeating Mbogo Mixed School 2-1.
 
In the secondary schools girls' category, Trust High Katikamu became the champs, after they edged out Katikamu SDA in the finals last year.
 
The tournament will also attract teams from other neighboring East African countries like Kenya and South Sudan.
