Kisoro people react to Kayihura's arrest

KISORO - Kisoro people are unhappy with the arrest of former Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura.
 
In their reactions, the people said Kaihura has been championing developmental inititatives in Kisoro district. 
 
The Kisoro LC5 chairman, Abel Bizimana, says Gen. Kayihura has been a productive and development-oriented son of the district. He has led many fundraising drives aimed at raising money for renovation of hospitals and schools.
 
"In early 2014, he participated in the Kisoro Marathon where over sh300m in cash and pledges were recieved for the renovation and equiping the maternity ward.

 "He also participated in another marathon where money was collected to renovate paediatric ward at Kisoro Hospital,"said Bizimana.
 
Speaking to New Vision this afternoon, Bizimana said Kayihura also participated in fundraising for his former school Mutolere Secondary School in Kisoro. 
 
He also revealed that the former Police Chief encouraged many people from Kisoro to join the Police.
 
Some district leaders had planned a gathering at the mayor's gardens in Kisoro town, but the Police disuaded them, saying it was illegal.

Deployment
 
On Thursday morning, the Police deployed in Kisoro town to avert a planned demonstrations by a section of Kisoro district residents. 
 
Media reports indicate that the former Police chief is currently held at at Makindye Military Barracks.
 
On Wednesday evening, the Uganda People's Defence Forces-UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire, said Gen. Kayihura was airlifted from his farm in Kashagama, Lyantonde district to Kampala.
 
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson says that the residents were being mobilised by the Kisoro district LC5 Chairman Abel Bizimana on social media to gather at Kisoro Mayors Gardens.
 
Maate  says  through  social  media,  Bizimana  was mobilising  people in Kisoro on Thursday  morning over the arrest of Kayihura.
 
In the posts, they say that they are heartened by what they termed as unfairness and shameful act  to their gallant son.
 
"The police have been fully deployed to take charge of the situation and advised the leadership to use the right channels or risk the long arm of the law as per public order management act," said Maate.
 
Charles Okoto, the Kisoro district Police commander says they will not allow any lawlessness.
