I am not under arrest - Gen. Kayihura

Former Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura says he is not under arrest contrary to rumours that have been circulating that he had been arrested.

Kayihura says he has been avoiding the media for a long time, but somehow they keep bringing rumours about him, adding that he has been at his farm in Lyantonde doing farming.

Kayihura says even if it was true that he was arrested, "would I be the first one to be arrested?"

Kayihura says if it was true that he had been arrested, the army will have said it.

The UPDF spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire says he has also been seeing the rumours and wonders why people were spreading falsehoods.

He says such information should just be treated as social media rumours because it is not true.

Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima says it is not under his mandate to talk about the arrest of Kayihura and therefore cannot say anything about it.

Social media has been awash with reports of Gen. Kale Kayihura's arrest. Reports also indicate that a hotel in Lyantonde where Kayihura is reported to be a regular patron was searched last evening.
