Kawanda tense after Abiriga murder

The area is tense, shopkeepers closed their shops and businesses as early as 7:30am and there has not been any information on whether Abiriga had a gun and if it was taken or not.

A few minutes after the gruesome murder of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga, sirens were heard as different security organs headed to the scene of crime.

According to residents, Abiriga who was a few metres from his home, was killed by gunmen who wore masks. the residents say they heard about 10 gunshots as the assailants sprayed bullets on Abiiriga's trademark yellow car.

According to eyewitnesses, officers from the chieftaincy of military intelliegence, the Police and the army have cordoned off the scene to give investigators opportunity to gather as much clues as possible.

The ISO director reportedly rushed to the scene as the officers barred journalists from the area.

Reports indicate that a phone suspected to belong to one of the killers was recovered at the scene.
