Clergy dragged to court over defilement

The Clergyman who has been on remand at Butuntumula Prison in Luweero ,will be transferred to Kampala where he is to appear before High Court.
A top Church of Uganda clergy in Luweero Diocese has been committed to High Court for trial over a recent incident in which he allegedly defiled a sixteen year old Primary Six pupil who was under his care.
Rev. Can. Kezekia Kalule, 62, the Archdeacon of Luteete Church of Uganda Archdeaconry in Bamunanika County, on Thursday appeared before Luweero Chief Magistrate Jane Hatanga who committed him to high court for trial.
Prosecution alleges that the accused, a renowned and long serving Church of Uganda clergy ,committed the offence during the month of October 2017 when he allegedly defiled and impregnated a 16-year-old girl who was under his care.
The elderly clergy who is charged with aggravated defilement was not allowed to take his plea because of the capital nature of the offence that he is charged with.
Kalule who has been on remand, was first arrested shortly after the complaint reached police earlier this year.

According to the Police case file number CRB 22/2018, the alleged victim who was under the care of the clergy ,was later on found to be pregnant and when she was interrogated by her parents, she revealed that she had been impregnated by Rev. Kalule.
The Luweero Diocesan Vicar, Rev. Mifbosses Musisi said that after receiving the complaint, the diocesan authorities summoned him on two occasions during which he denied the allegations, claiming that he was being framed by detractors.
