ARUA - The jurisdiction of Arua court has received a new high court judge after Justice Stephen Mubiru has been transferred to Gulu high court.

Justice Oyuko Anthony Ojok was the high court Judge, Fort Portal, handling nine districts under his docket.

Speaking during the handover and farewell party at Arua court premises on Thursday evening, Justice Anthony Ojok said he will not tolerate laziness of court staff.

He said any court staff who will come late for duty will be penalised and those who tend to dodge work on Monday and Friday will face the tough times.

Justice Ojok also warned lawyers to desist from tempting judges and clients with bribery to win cases.

"I do not tolerate corruption and any lawyer who does so."
Justice Ojok started his first criminal session in Arua on Friday and said the registry had handed him less than 240 cases committed before high court.

He appreciated Justice Mubiru for managing backlog cases and promised to reduce on the cases.

"I will not let the people of Arua down and I pray the staff of Arua court work as a team to make Arua remain on top in handling cases.

"I will maintain time and late coming is not a good thing in court," Justice Ojok said.

It is my humble prayer that, Lawyers should never use money to bribe judicial officers and should not use the names of judicial officers to win a case.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Judge, Justice Stephen Mubiru said he managed to reduce on backlog cases and implored his successor to work hard and reduce on backlogs.
