DRAGGED TO COURT- The minister of science, technology and innovation Elioda Tumwesigye has been dragged to court over what has been described as illegal nomination in accordance to National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral laws.

He was sued by alongside the ruling NRM party, as the first respondent, by David Kamukama, one of the contestants Sheema Municipality MP race. Other candidates in the race include Geofrey Mucunguzi, Jonas Tumwine, and Joseph Mwebesa among others.

"On May 14, 2018, the first respondent purportedly nominated the 2nd respondent as a candidate to run for NRM party primary elections as a Member of Parliament for Sheema Municipality, Sheema district," reads part of the case filed in High Court Kampala.

Tumwesigye was nominated four days after the closure of the nominations, which Kamukama says is illegal.

"The said nomination of 2nd respondent by the 1st respondent was illegal in contravention with NRM party electoral laws," he argues Kamukama's lawyer.

Currently, he is the MP for Sheema North Constituency in the Parliament.

Complainant's demands

Kamukama through his lawyer now seeks general damages and the costs for the acts of both Tumwesigye and the ruling NRM party. He also argues that the acts of the respondents caused anxiety on applicant for which he seeks judicial redress to correct administrative wrongs of the NRM.
