Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Vice president Rita Aliguma reached another milestone over the weekend when she was elected to serve as an executive member of the Association of International Press Association (AIPS) Africa bureau.

Her position was confirmed during the 81st AIPS Congress in Brussels, Belgium, which she attended with USPA General Secretary Patrick Kanyomozi.

This is history for USPA's first female USPA Vice President Aliguma who has been instrumental and at the forefront of pushing for the development of sports journalism in the country and has been has been regular content provider for AIPS over the years.

"I don't take anything for granted. This is a huge milestone for me and I just have to aim higher and achieve more than this. I have to keep climbing the ladders. I look up-to Evelyn Watta in this case," Aliguma stated.

Kenya's Watta is the vice president of the International Sports Press Association, AIPS. Last year Watta became the first African lady to be elected to the helm of the Switzerland-based organisation.

AIPS-Africa President Mitchel Obbi says Aliguma deserved this position because of her passion and determination for sport and also women inclusiveness which is key.

Other new members on the African body include Lilian Nshirimana from Burundi,  Fliss Mohammed from Tunisia,  Sisoko Mouse from Gambia and Nasim Beson from Algeria.
