CECAFA Women's Cup postponed

Rwanda has postponed hosting of the 2018 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup that was slated for May 12-22 due lack of funds.

"The reason behind the postponement of the tournament is basically due to the unavailability of hosting funds initially meant to be sent to Rwanda FA by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA)," read Rwanda Football Federation's statement in part.

Rwanda took the decision to postpone the games despite the repeated correspondences and calls to the CECAFA secretariat requesting funds to host the tournament, to be availed.

Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Djibouti are some of the countries that had confirmed their participation for the tournament.

In fact Uganda's team, the Crested Cranes, had already entered a residential training camp at African Bible University in Lubowa, to prepare for the tournament.

The Crested Cranes finished fourth on home soil in 2016, in a tournament won by neighbours Tanzania.
