INDIANS IN UGANDA- Recently, the Indian community in Uganda started celebrating their state days powered by the Indian Association of Uganda in conjuction with the Indian High Commission in Kampala.

Yesterday, Indians who originate from the 6th largest and most industrialised state of India, Gujarat, celebrated their Gujarat Divas day 2018 at Kampala Parents School amidst different cultural performances in music, drama and dance.

The initiative of celebrating state days aims at displaying the rich cultural heritage and  tourism potentials of India's states.

The Gujarati are classified as the inhabitants of the state of Gujarat, western India. For most of them, Gujarati is their native language, however, they speak various dialects with many cultural distinctions.

Some of the differences are based on region, while others are based on their "caste" (social class) or community.

They are a significant community in many African countries including Uganda, where many Indian tycoons and renowned businessmen are, including Sudhir Ruparelia and Karim Hirj among others.
