AZAM UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Vipers 2 Police 0
Maroons 0 Bright Stars 0
KITENDE - Vipers beat Police 2-0 on Friday evening at St Mary's stadium, Kitende, to extend their lead in the Azam Uganda Premier League.
The victory saw Lawrence Mulindwa’s football club move to 58 points, five above SC Villa who were not in action. Milton Karisa and Dan Sserunkuma scored a goal, as Vipers maintained their winning run.
Sserunkuma moved joint top of the scoring chart with Nelson Senkatuka of Bright Stars at 13 goals while Karisa had 12 goals.
This was the last game for Vipers' head coach, Miguel Da Costa and goalkeeper James Alitho, without being on the touchline and squad respectively.
The dual had been given a four match ban by FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel after attacking match officials, when Vipers settled to a goalless draw with BUL in an away game last month, at Kakind stadium, Jinja.
Vipers, who are also on course to win a double this season after reaching the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup had a better first half despite missing out on so many scoring opportunities. But, in the second half they looked down which gave Police a chance to penrate them but the Cops did not get back of the net.
Vipers’ worries in the midfield started when their key player, Tadeo Lwanga was replaced by Brian Nkuubi in the first half after getting a back injury.
Police who have had inconsistent performances since second round kick off, had themselves to blame after conceding two goals off defense errors.
The defeat leaves Police in the ninth positon at 35 points.
KCCA who are other title contenders on 51 points in third position were not in action since they are taking part in the CAF Champions League.
Elsewhere, Maroons settled for a goalless draw with Bright Stars at Luzira Prisons ground. The league will resume on Tuesday with different games on card.
