“Ugandan civil servants are 400,000 which is 1% of 40 million Ugandans, if you're agitating for pay rise, don't forget other Ugandans who are not in your category,” he said.

President Yoweri Museveni has said that although he is one of the least paid employees of the Government, he has never complained.

He said those who are complaining about the pay are enemies of the state.

"I am the President of Uganda. I get a low pay. I have never complained," he said.

He revealed that his pay is sh3.6m per month, which way below what many civil servants get.

The President was responding to a petition by NOTU chairman Usher Wilson Owere, speaking on behalf of the workers' union, struck a tone of opposition to the idea of bringing in medics from Cuba.

Owere asked him to consider enhancing the medics' salaries. This was during the International Labour Day celebrations in Ssembabule on Tuesday.

The President said any doctor who strikes is not a doctor; he is an enemy of the people.

"Ugandan civil servants are 400,000 which is 1% of 40 million Ugandans, if you're agitating for pay rise, don't forget other Ugandans who are not in your category," he said.
